 The GY number is used to describe the distance the pins on a bi-pin lamp are apart from each other.

GY4 or G4 is 4mm or 0.156 inches or approx 5/32""
GY6.35 or G6.35 is 6.35mm or 0.25 inches or approx 1/4"
GY8 or G8 is 8mm or 0.315 inches or approx 5/16"
GY9 or G9 is 9mm or 0.354 inches or approx 23/64"
(The G9 Has Loop Shaped Legs - Not Pins)
