The LS1-L is used with T-3 double ended halogen light bulbs with recessed double contacts. The recessed contacts known as RSC are possible the most common halogen bulb. These sockets will accept up to 500 watt 120 volt bulbs. The LS1-S accepts the long version of the bulb that is 4-11/16 inches or 118mm long.
